Medigap

Plan G

The most popular Medigap plan for new enrollees. Covers nearly all Part A & B cost sharing except the annual Part B deductible ($283 in 2026).

The quick version

If you only read one thing, read this

  • 1

Covers Part A deductible, Part A/B coinsurance, blood, SNF coinsurance, Part B excess charges, and foreign travel emergency. Does not cover Part B deductible.

  • 2

Monthly premium (typically $120–$180) + Part B premium ($202.90 in 2026) + Part B deductible ($283 in 2026), then virtually zero additional costs.

  • 3

Guaranteed issue during your 6-month Medigap OEP (starts when Part B begins) or qualifying events; medical underwriting applies outside those windows.

The honest take

What's good, and where it falls short

The good stuff

  • Near-complete cost protection. Only the $283 Part B deductible is left
  • Covers Part B excess charges
  • Most popular Medigap plan for new enrollees

The catch

  • Higher premium than Plan N ($30–$50 more/month typically)
  • No drug, dental, or vision coverage
  • Premiums can rise annually

Buyer beware

The mistakes that cost folks the most

Missing the 6-month Medigap OEP. Underwriting outside this window can mean higher rates or denial

Not comparing carrier premiums. Plan G benefits are identical across carriers, but pricing varies a lot

Assuming Plan G is all-inclusive. You still need Part D for drugs and separate dental/vision
